awesome content brother. Subbed. Thanks for sharing
The exhaust smoke you mentioned is in the "Intake" cleaning method, not the crankcase. You won't get smoke in the exhaust with the crankcase oil method.
Rotella is what she needs
I just binge watched most of your gear install videos, they are all amazing and the best info i can find anywhere. You've got a new subscriber here! Thanks for doing them. I did have 1 question, i couldn't find a video of a high pinion dana 30 in your video's. How would patterning differ with the HPD30 compared to the LPD30? In this video you say to favor the coast side pattern, would that be the same for the HP30? So on a HPD30 would you focus on the bottom of the tooth, which would be the coast side for the HP since its reverse?
On a high pinion 30 you would favor the drive side. The only reason I tell people to favor one side versus the other is if you can't get a pattern that is good on both sides.
Thanks for the info. Keep the awesome videos coming!
Great educational thank you
So I just bought a set of 4.30 Dana SVL's for my truck. I'm having the same problem with this gearset as the last one from Yukon. Coast is way too deep when obtaining a good drive pattern. Ford 10.25. Obviously we want to favor the drive side pattern and fine tune the coast without compromising the drive pattern. Would there be a way I could reach you to take a look at the pattern?
Any for the XJ?
Go to Summit to check 🤷
Thank you so much for these videos. My d35 is making serious noise and just turning the pinion by hand with the drive shaft disconnected is pretty rough and loud. I took a look and some of the gears are missing chunks about the size of a bb gun bb. I had decided on swapping a junkyard axle in but after watching these videos it doesn't look nearly as difficult to fix as online forums would suggest.
That's exactly why I make the videos!
You guys did great !! Nice Video !!
This is great! I tried re-building one years ago before there were good videos on UA-cam and I couldn't comprehend the directions (after all the ball bearings fell out). After watching this video I'm certain I could do it correctly and avoid buying a poorly done reman. I've returned multiple re-manufactured units to the local auto parts stores.
Awesome install! We appreciate your business.
Thanks to your team for making replacement cushions!
I'm surprised there aren't any other how to seat cushion install videos for TJ's like this. Your the only one Mike. Great explanation. Thx
Great video, thank you. Do you think there is any hope of doing this job with the seat in place (still in the jeep)? I've already sheared one seat mounting bolt...not hopeful that the other 3 will be any easier!
Yeah I think so with some patience!
Timely video. Just saw these on Saturday then saw this video yesterday. Ordered today. Great move on Summit to fill a void. Thanks for the video and the review.
Thank you for such a thorough explanation! I wish more videos were like yours! Thanks again!!
This is perfect! The bottom cushion on my driver side is falling apart fast and the woven OEM seat fabric is also falling apart. The fitment on those Bartact covers looks great compared to others.
Moog both are grease-able. Turn the cotter holes so you can get a pin in them.
Do you know where I can get factory type replacement upholstery not just seat covers?
I haven't been able to source any. Bartact makes a great cover. Mine are Trek Armor which became Bartact. Very well made.
THANK YOU. I have never been able to find any neither. I guess they just want to sell you the whole seat. Maybe one of your other loyal subscribers know of a source. GREAT CHANNEL. I have learned a lot from you.
Nice work and explanation. No more TJ gangsta lean!
Haha!
Do you have a part or model number for the blind hole bearing hole puller you use?
You mentioned a truss in this video. Have you ever found a truss install to effect the gear set up? I've always welded on the truss before a fresh install; never with a gear set that I was going to run already set up. But my current build i may weld the truss on at a different time than the gear install. What's you experience? Great video BTW!
Vary Educational session. Although, i had a shop just did all my regeared +add ARB locker, I'll watch your channel to gain insight how it done. Thanks for putting our this stream. Lot's of valuable info.🙏💯❤
I compared your video to the service manual. The service manual says that the pitman seal assembly should go in this order from inside to outside: Oil seal, Washer, Snap Ring, Dust Seal, Pitman Shaft Boot. Perhaps you don't have to hammer in the dust seal if the snap ring is already in? Did you intentionally reverse their order?
Thank you for the valuable information. Love your channel.
Clean, clear, no drama - straight to the point. Perfect. Thank you.
Wish mine was ticking but its more of a hiss
a good wash/degrease of the casing prior to disassembly is best practise
Thanks for the video. I'm doing a 72 Blazer restoration and this how I will do the seals.
What an amazing video .. ! Great work! Thank you for sharing your work and experience with us - Quick questions: 1. Did you add a crash shelve in the pinion assembly? I was under the impression that we should add one and then ''crush'' it as we tight the pinion to spec 2. Is there a starting point of ''total'' rings that you add left and right initially? Is there a spec there or goes by our feeling of the backlash? Thanks again!
Some axles use a crush sleeve and some use shims. Use what your axle is supposed to have. The "rings" you are referring to are called shims. I usually try to start with what was in there and adjust as needed
excellent thanks

excellent presentation, straight to the point. Thanks for sharing
Hi Mike, do you sell your services for something like this or if not do you know of anyone in Colorado who would? I'm looking to upgrade from my savvy short arm kit to the midarm kit, outboard my rear shocks, and relocate my rear spring perches, but don't know of any shops around that would take on such a job. I'm up in Northern Colorado (Loveland) for reference.
Email me at mike @ the BFH Garage
Viewers van advance to 31:03 if not interested in hydro assist. For that bearing, search "National DB5313" which was about $11 at Rock Auto. Of course verify if it will work for your application. Amazing job on this tutorial and flawless recovery from the technical hiccup!
Great videos! Very educational. Any tips on how to hold the ring gear still to torque the ring gear bolts? I'm re-gearing a 2016 JKU with an Eaton limited slip. Thanks
If you didn't have a big enough vise, then a shop press works. Use a 2x4 on the bottom.
@@TheBFHGarage man that suggestion worked like a charm. I used the press method and got it torqued, now moving on to the pinion. Thanks again!
You make a kit to sell?
I threw around the idea of selling the PVC template so people could make their own but there's only been a few that have reached out.
Great video. Thank you. It is so nice to finally see some very high quality videos that are easy to understand from several aspects. I have always been super intimidated but working on ring and pinion set ups but I have 3 to do this summer so this has been extremely helpful. Thanks again for high quality presentation.
Sea foam is good stuff. Use as directed. If you want the smoke, buy sea foam in a spray can, and spray it in the intake manifold or carb when the engine is hot. Youre suppose to run the engine with sea foam in the crank case for several miles.
I really appreciate the video. However, the ball bearings from my unit are very hard to discern the black from the silver. The color must've worn off over the years. Can you find out which is which by size?
Yeah some are just that way. You can try to measure with calipers. I've seen others just throw them in without concern.
@@TheBFHGarage Thanks for the quick reply. I think I will just purchase new ones. OEM part is only $35 for them. I have the service manual and it also says to alternate as you showed. I'd rather do it right once. My calipers were not consistently finding a difference either.
@@TheBFHGarage For your or anybody else's reference, I measured all the balls twice with a micrometer. Half measured 279-279.5 thousandths; the other half measured 278-278.5 thousandths. The smaller pile does seem to look every so slightly darker, which complies with the service manual.
I’m looking to rebuild an 80-96/7 Ford truck steering box, it looks similar to this one. Is this a similar step by step for something like that?
They are very similar but be prepared for any differences. 👍
all i can say is a proffessional job and knowing how to deal with all marks and dry seals to prevent any damage in it 🤠👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🌹
Extremely helpful!. Again... that lengthy discussion of how and why is very helpful. Too many rush through and don't explain small details that others my not realize. Good video
My email address is on my UA-cam homepage under about
A good lengthy through discussion about a topic that way too many gloss over in a vague explanation. Good video. Fantastic demeanor 😊
Yep, it’s always good to change those diff fluids about every 30,000 miles even less miles if you’re going to go out and do stupid stuff like me lol
Don’t you wish you were 5’6”
😂🤣
Lol. People always say, "I wish I was tall." My response as a tall man is, "No, you don't." 🤣
we just use a bearing heater to install bearings. works the same as the ring gear
I've seen 12 bolt and 9 pinion snaped off right behind the yoke ,but this is the first time Ive seen a bent pinion
Nice no point video.
All I can say is wow what a mess, thanks for the video 👍😁
solid video! The cone is the inner race, the outer race is in the housing. the bearing(s) them selves are held with the cage. you had it right the first time. Race is the correct term for the cone
